KLIK Amsterdam Animation Festival starts the presale of early bird tickets for its tenth edition, which will take place 17 – 22 October 2017 in EYE Filmmuseum. KLIK is delighted to confirm international guest Daron Nefcy, creator and executive producer of the Disney hit series Star vs. the Forces of Evil. Expect six full days of animated madness. The extensive program includes feature films, animated shorts compilations from all over the world, premieres, sneak previews, talks, installations, workshops, masterclasses, and an electrifying closing party. On the occasion of the anniversary, the festival will also take a retrospective look on it’s favourite animations from the past ten years. On Sunday October 30th there is a special program for children, including animated shorts and creative activities.
Special guest: Daron Nefcy (Disney)
The festival is delighted to confirm Daron Nefcy, creator and executive producer of the popular Disney television series Star vs. the Forces of Evil, as a guest. The Annie Award-nominated animated series features the pubescent alien princess Star Butterfly, as she navigates through high school and fights the forces of evil. In her presentation Nefcy will give a glimpse of the process of creating an episode for the show. From coming up with an idea, to storyboards, design, editing, music, sound and animation.
Nefcy has been awarded Variety's "10 Animators to Watch" and made Forbes 30 under 30 list of young entrepreneurs and change makers for 2015. The Los Angeles Times featured Nefcy in a cover story about the growing influence of women in animation.
International competition
Heart of the festival’s program is the international competition for animated shorts. In carefully curated compilation programs, divided into several categories, KLIK presents the very best animated shorts from over the whole world. These films compete for one of the highly coveted KLIK Awards. Last year the festival received over 1800 entries from 83 countries.
Never Grow Up
With the themed program Never Grow Up the festival puts the spotlight on animations that question common conceptions of age and the expectations that go with certain ages and life stages. What does it mean to to be grown up? What if you refuse to act your age? Alongside feature films, presentations and short film compilations, the experience of time is also expressed through special installations by national and international artists. Animation is the perfect medium; playing with ideas of circular and linear time and depicting timelessness.
Early bird passe-partouts
For festival visitors who want to have a head start, KLIK introduces a passe-partouts with a reduced price. A passe-partout grants access to all screenings and programs during the entire festival (apart from masterclasses), and access to the (in)famous KLIK! KLIK! BOOM! party on Saturday October 21st. These passes are only available online for a limited time for a reduced price.

Sharing sequences from Shrek 2, Kroon will talk about how ideas are formed and developed and how they find their final form in what is often a process of trial and error.
Producer Mariano Melman will discuss a production approach to storytelling in virtual reality, specifically based on his experience on Nexus’ new 360° VR film project Rain or Shine. ]]>KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival has named award-winning cartoonist and animation director Dan Meth as its artist-in-residence for 2016. As part of his residency Meth will create animations and cartoons for the Amsterdam based animation festival’s social media platforms. A collection of his work will also be exhibited during the annual six-day festival, 25-30 October.
“We’re pleased to have Dan Meth join us here at KLIK! this year”, said Yvonne van Ulden, creative director of KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival. “Earlier this year Dan relocated from New York City to the Netherlands seeking new inspirations, and he wanted to get involved in the Dutch animation scene. His eclectic and colorful mix of the funny and bizarre perfectly fits with KLIK!’s fun and edgy approach of animation. With his experience in creating cartoons and memes that are infused with popular culture, Dan can use our social media platforms as a playground to experiment with KLIK!’s beloved characters and to promote animation’s diversity and broad appeal.”
Born in the suburbs of New York City, Dan Meth started drawing cartoons as soon as he could hold a crayon. After a childhood and adolescence spent devouring visual art followed by a major in illustration at Syracuse University, he set out into the world to make a career in animation.
Meth graduated exactly as a new video-friendly internet was giving birth to an unprecedented freedom and power for independent animators. He quickly established himself as a creator of ‘viral’ animated comedy, and created many cartoons and memes that have been shared all over the world. In 2007, he directed The Meth Minute, a 39-episode series which was followed by a spin-off called Nite Fite. He has also worked on television series such as Comedy Central's Ugly Americans and Nickelodeon's Random Cartoons and has been commissioned to draw illustrations for The New York Times, BuzzFeed, and New York Magazine.
Meth is currently working on a sci-fi graphic novel epic called The Regolith which you can read on Instagram each day as he finishes it.
KLIK! will be publishing Meth’s work on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and its mascot fan page. A collection of Meth's work created as part of his residency will be on display during the ninth edition of KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival, 25-30 October at EYE in Amsterdam.
Find out more about Meth's work at danmeth.com as well as on Instagram at @danmeth and @the_regolith.

Amsterdam Animation Festival announces the dates of its ninth edition and this year's theme: Landscape and Habitat.
KLIK! Amsterdam Animation Festival takes place from 25 until 30 October at EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam. Six days of hilarious, weird, playful, artistic, dramatic, overwhelming and touching animated films. The extensive program presents feature films, compilation programs of animated shorts from all over the world, premieres, sneak previews, talks, installations, workshops, masterclasses, and an electrifying closing party. The festival has something for every taste, from design lovers to fans of pop and visual culture. On Sunday 30 October there are special programs for children, with animated shorts and activities such as arts and crafts, and a drawing contest.
Special focus: Nature and landscapes
With the theme 'Landscape and Habitat' the festival puts the spotlight on animations that focus on landscapes and the way people relate to them. Films and special events about the relationship between man and his surroundings — sometimes harmonic, sometimes very dangerous — give food for thought and showcase the endless versatility of animation. Besides feature films, presentations and short film compilations, the theme is also expressed through a special exhibition of animated paintings by a range of international artists. There will also be an interactive three-dimensional landscape which visitors can make evolve; this process will be recorded in a time-lapse video. A special cycling tour will take visitors to three locations in North Amsterdam, where they will watch a film that matches their surroundings.
International competition
Heart of the festival’s program is the international competition for animated shorts. In carefully curated compilations programs, divided into several categories, KLIK! presents the very best animated shorts from all over the world. These films compete for one of the highly-coveted KLIK! Awards. Until 15 June 2016 animators can submit their work for the ninth edition of KLIK!. Last year the festival received over 1800 entries from 80 countries.
Exclusive premiere of Sync
KLIK! presents the premiere of the fascinating documentary Sync (2016). Filmmakers Joop van den Beucken and Bob van der Houven explore the world of Dutch dubbing of animated films, in collaboration with the creators of the nostalgic online series Stemmen van Toen (Voices From the Past). Through interviews with voice actors, directors, translators, technicians and studio directors Sync highlights the present and past of this creative industry, and its impact on the Dutch social landscape. After the screening there will be Q&A with the makers and/or actors.
The Powerpuff Girls: New episodes
In collaboration with Cartoon Network, KLIK! presents brand new episodes of the popular animated series The Powerpuff Girls. The series — first aired in the 90s — has been revamped this year. After the screening there will be a Q&A with one of the makers.
